david sheldrick elephant orphanage
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust looks after orphaned elephants and rhino from a site in Nairobi, Kenya. These animals are often left orphaned due to poaching or disease, and due to their fragile nature, they would succumb if left in the wild. The Trust endeavours to look after the animals and gradually rehabilitate them for introduction back into the wild. Some of the animals that come to the Trust are also victims of attacks by other animals, such as Kilanguni (one of the elephants in the above album), a young calf who was attacked by hyenas after the death of his mother. The hyenas succeeded in biting off Kilanguni's tail, and left damage to his ears, before the calf was rescued.
